The UMT has been varve chronologically dated to
11,000 varve yrs BP from Holzmaar (Zolitschka, 1995). AMS radiocarbon dates of the UMT in Holzmaar range between 9515 ± 75 and 9650 ± 85 14C years BP (Hajdas et al., 1995), which agrees with an age of 9610 ± 40 14C years BP from MFM sediments (Endres, 1997). Since this date falls within the 9.5 ka radiocarbon plateau the calibrated date is not better than 11,150-10,750 cal BP (2 sigma; Stuiver and Reimer, 1993).
